Corrieshalloch Gorge

Corrieshalloch Gorge is said to be one of the most spectacular gorges in the whole of Britain. It’s about a mile long and 60m deep, and was created by glacial meltwater.

The gorge is close to Ullapool and not far from Inverness - it’s right where A832 meets A835. Free parking is available (small donations are accepted, as the site is managed by the National Trust of Scotland).

It’s only when you reach the suspension bridge over River Droma that you get a sense of just how deep the gorge is. This little bridge was actually built by Sir John Fowler, the chief engineer behind Edinburgh’s famous Forth Bridge.

After crossing the bridge, head a little further to a viewing platform. From there, you get a really nice view of the suspension bridge towering above this mighty gorge.
